EAS is a company that has its roots in Precision Farming, where the objectives of optimal plant growth, minimal fertilizer application and environmental consideration were the key factors. Having gained extensive knowledge and experience while developing technologies to suit South African conditions Joe Schiller decided to establish EAS with a focus on the horticultural, turf-grass and home garden markets as the objectives were exactly the same. Currently EAS customers include the major producers of instant lawn and flower bulbs in South Africa, the premier golf courses and leading turf and facilities management companies as well as individual home owners, each of them wanting a green healthy lawn and garden for the lowest possible cost while limiting the environmental impact.
Often we have asked grounds-men and gardeners which type of fertilizer they use and more than likely the answer is 2:3:2 and LAN/KAN when enquiring as to why the answer is “because the salesman at ……. told me so” or “because I’ve always done it this way”. The fact of the matter is that each soil has a varying nutrient status to begin with, each year whatever plants are grown in that soil, will remove certain elements. In addition the relationship or ratio between certain of the elements will dictate how successfully or not the plant is able to utilize the nutrients. An overabundance or imbalance in the ratio of any of the elements will result in the plant being under stress and a leaching of the elements into the subsoil with the resultant negative environmental impact and wastage. EAS aims to address this with the most technologically advanced methods available today.
EAS believes that only if you measure something can you properly manage it, so in order to make better decisions the process starts with the collection of soil samples, the analysis of these samples by an accredited laboratory determines the nutrient status of the soil, the results are input into our computer aided analysis and recommendation system and a fertilizer application recommendation is generated. This recommendation accounts for any deficiency or imbalance in the soils nutrient status. Acidity (pH), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Sodium (Na), Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K) are the main elements that EAS measures and often micro-elements and soil physical characteristics are also analysed. With this approach EAS ensures that the balance between different elements is maintained and a nutrient replacement program for the lawn is optimised, this will ensure that maximum growth with the least cost is maintained and that the environmental impact is minimized.
EAS will also assist the grounds-man and gardener to apply the fertilizer to the areas that require it at the correct rate while at the same time applying selective herbicides to address weed infestations and pesticides to neutralize harmful pests.
This comprehensive service is designed to account for all issues other than watering that affect lawn growth and is available at an affordable rate that far outstrips competitors in terms of effectiveness and cost.
EAS’s service is by far more cost effective for the grounds-man, who typically would apply fertiliser and nutrients uniformly across all fields, irrespective of the specific needs of each area. This result’s in waste or worse - inappropriate applications can disrupt the nutritional balance of the soil and have a long term negative environmental impact.
This is often the reason for lawns fleetingly turning green after a treatment, but rapidly browning thereafter.
We apply exactly what is required -
saving money and optimising the results
